What is Vape Wire and What Does It Do?

Vape wire is a crucial tool for any vaper who uses an RDA or an RTA vape. This simplest of vaping tools is responsible for heating up your vape juice and turning it into vapor. Without it, you would have no clouds, no flavor, and no functionality.

In this guide, we’re going to take a closer look at what vape wire is, vape mechanisms, and the most popular type of vape wire on the market today.

How Vapes Work: A Brief Lesson

To learn the importance of vape wire, you need to know how vapes actually work. When you put a vape coil into your vape, you’re putting in something that’s made of metal and cotton.

The cotton soaks up the vape juice in your tank, or, if you’re dripping, it soaks up the vape juice that you drip onto it. The cotton is against a metal wire, often made of an alloy called Kanthal, which is a mixture of iron, chromium, and aluminum.

When you press the fire button, your battery heats the wire, causing the juice on the cotton to vaporize, which you then inhale.

Without the vape wire, you wouldn’t be able to heat anything, and thus, you’d have no vapor.

Different Types of Vape Wire

While Kanthal is one of the most popular alloys on the market, it’s not the only material that vape wire is made out of.

Another popular alloy for vape wire is Nichrome, which is mostly made of nickel and chromium. This alloy is renowned for its lower resistance than Kanthal, and it’s easy to work with. However, it does have a lower melting point than Kanthal, which means you need to be a little wary of letting it reach higher temperatures.

Stainless steel is another popular choice for vape wire. This type of wire can be used for both temperature-controlled vaping and wattage vaping, and it’s also got a lower resistance than Kanthal. However, if you dry fire it, it could potentially release harmful chemicals, so be careful.

Finally, we have a much rarer choice: titanium. Titanium can be used for temperature-controlled vaping and it holds its shape well, however, there are some notable safety concerns about titanium vape wire. At high temperatures, it can release toxic titanium dioxide, and if it catches fire, it is very hard to put out.

If you’re new to building your own coils, we’d recommend that you stick to Kanthal or Nichrome, which are the most popular choices. They’re a little safer and are very easy to work with.

Vape Wire Is Essential

A quality vape wire is an essential bit of kit, but we’d recommend playing it safe and sticking to alloys rather than stainless steel or titanium. It’s also worth noting that Nichrome’s nickel could be an issue if you have a nickel allergy.
